Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) Units
An ESP unit mainly consists of a submersible motor, protector, gas separator, and pump.Due to advantages such as ease of use, simple maintenance, and a small footprint, ESP units are widely used in both offshore and onshore oil field production. Based on the application environment and structural type, ESP units can be categorized into Standard, Sand-Resistant, and Corrosion-Resistant types.

An ESP unit mainly consists of a submersible motor, protector, gas separator, and pump. Due to advantages such as ease of use, simple maintenance, and a small footprint, ESP units are widely used in both offshore and onshore oil field production. Based on the application environment and structural type, ESP units can be categorized into Standard, Sand-Resistant, and Corrosion-Resistant types.
Standard Type:
The heads, bases, and housings of the complete unit are made of carbon steel. The pump, separator, and protector main shafts are made of Monel alloy. Other parts in contact with well fluid use common stainless steel (304 or 2Cr13). Cast parts like impellers and diffusers are made of Type 1# Ni-Resist. The pump is available in floater type or compression type designs. The separator can be either rotary or vortex type. The protector is of a modular design with an optional high-load thrust bearing. The motor is divided into upper, middle, and lower sections and can be fitted with a standard base or a sensor base.
Sand-Resistant Type:
Compared to the Standard type, the Sand-Resistant type features a unique sand-resistant structural design. Key characteristics include: (1) The pump incorporates sand-resistant stages with enhanced wear resistance between regular stages, and the diffusers feature fan-shaped sand ribs. The compression type sand-resistant model offers better adaptability and longer service life than the floater type sand-resistant model. Wear-resistant coating can be applied to impellers and diffusers based on well conditions and customer requirements. (2) The separator employs a sand-resistant design to allow finer sand particles to pass through, preventing sand blockage. The overall structure offers high wear resistance and longer life. (3) The protector head is equipped with sand discharge ports.
Corrosion-Resistant Type:
Compared to the Standard type, the Corrosion-Resistant type features excellent corrosion resistance, primarily achieved through two methods: (1) The heads, bases, and housings of the complete unit are made of stainless steel. The pump, separator, and protector main shafts can be made of high-strength Inconel alloy. Impellers and diffusers can be made of Type 4# Ni-Resist or duplex stainless steel. (2) The external surfaces of the complete unit can receive a Monel anti-corrosion coating.
